Group History

The history of Zakori group is a story of unwavering perseverance and commitment to innovate and transform an extremely unfavorable business domain. The founder, Mr.Habibullah Khan Zakori has the reputation of being the Benjamin Franklin of the region for his foresight and rigor in building a company out of sheer diligence and fortitude. Starting in 1985, the group has transformed into an entity of 9 companies driving value through investment and operational engagement at the intersection of construction, energy, hospitality and healthcare.

Habibullah Khan Zakori returns to his motherland after building a portfolio of extensive experience working across multiple industries in Germany. With his vision of making his country self-reliant in meeting local demands of various products, Mr. Habib indulges in focused research around the industrial sector to discover gaps in the supply and demand in the market. After a detailed study of the business landscape, he learned that there was no industry of Adhesive tapes in Pakistan and the demand was met by regular imports from various countries. This prompted Mr. Zakori to pioneer the sector by opening the first indigenous manufacturing unit of Adhesive tapes in Pakistan.

Mr. Habibullah Khan Zakori initiates the process of changing the domain of tape manufacturing by forming the first industry of the country by the name of R.U.A TESA Industry (pvt) limited. With the local industrial landscape in disarray due to neglect of the relevant government authorities, Mr. Zakori’s resilience and determination to serve the country served as fuel to bring the vision of sustenance and reliability into fruition during an era when even China lacked a tape manufacturing unit. The industry was set up by importing the state of the art coating line German technology to start the production of PVC electrical tapes and was an immediate success by capturing a significant portion of the market. The establishment of the industry was vital in giving local investors the confidence to pursue the daunting task of making Pakistan self-reliant and to strive for a transparent and innovative business environment.

The journey of being the pioneers of the region’s industrial domain was once again re-vitalized with the latest approach towards innovation in the product line. The futuristic thinking served as the basis for diversifying the product portfolio to cement the status as the leading manufacturers of tapes in the country. This prompted the need for a separate industrial setup by the name of Zakori Industry (pvt) limited which was focused on producing the most advanced BOPP packaging tapes, double-sided tapes and masking tapes which now served a wider market.

The current President of the group, Mr. Ayub Khan Zakori takes reign with a renewed vision for the future of the company. An ardent expert of business modeling and streamlining operations, Ayub projected his business intellect in every area of the company to revamp the entire setup into a more efficient and sustainable entity. After securing the position of the being the country’s principal tape manufacturer, Mr. Ayub pursued a formidable plan of diversifying the family’s sole tape manufacturing business into an empire of companies in multiple sectors. As a keen observer of the latest technologies and the local and international markets, Ayub strived for excellence and innovation in pursuing new businesses opportunities

After years of research and forming the base for diversification, Ayub’s first of many major successes comes with the entry in the oil and gas industry. The President managed to predict the boom in the CNG sector and established Bluetec CNG filling station which became the first unit with the capacity to fuel trucks and buses. Bluetec became the largest plant in the region and marked the continuation of the company’s approach towards transformation and innovation in the local business domain.

The period marked a tumultuous time in the history of the country with the rise in terrorism which proved to be extremely destabilizing for the business domain. Many investors folded their business operations but the Zakori group stayed true to its commitment of serving their motherland without regard for their personal safety. The business acumen and innovative drive of the community was questioned which prompted Ayub  Khan Zakori to rise to the challenge of leading the business and industrial community out of a time of extreme social and financial crisis. Despite having numerous opportunities to leave the country, Ayub not only expanded his current businesses but also diversified into the food and beverages industry by investing in the first branch of Mr.Cod in Peshawar under a franchising agreement

After the revamp of the hospitality industry in the home region, Ayub Khan Zakori sought greater influence across the continent and pursued the opening of the Mr.Cod franchise in the UAE. The deal also put the Zakori group as the sole franchising entity in all of Asia and the Middle East.

The year marked another hurdle for the business community of the region with the start of various military operations both inside the country and across the border in the war-torn Afghanistan. Ayub Khan Zakori was steadfast in his approach to contribute towards attaining peace by continuing positive business activity and took the daring and highly risky step of opening a Mr. Cod franchise in Afghanistan. This momentous contribution was in alignment with the family’s vision of peace and harmony across the entire region

The Zakori group now attained the status of being major players not only in Pakistan but across Asia and this was further cemented by partnering with a local group of UAE to open a state of the art day care in the Middle East. The ‘Tiny Feet Nursery’ was an immediate success and continues to be the leading daycare of the UAE.

Ayub Khan Zakori was by now renowned as an expert in the food and beverage industry with his successful management of the numerous Mr. Cod franchises across the continent. After gaining expertise and knowledge of the intricacies of the business, the group decided to venture into opening their own brand with the idea of disrupting the industry by hiring foreign expert cooks and leading branding consultants. This idea gained momentum with the opening of the Ranchers restaurant in Islamabad which proved to be an unprecedented success and remains the busiest eatery in the capital of the country.

The President’s desire to replicate the success of the group by venturing into new business avenues was achieved by the foundation of a construction company by the name of Platinum Corporation (pvt) Limited. Because of his reputation as one of the most upright businessmen of the region, the company was awarded the C2 certificate with a limit of 1 billion rupees which further paved the road for a smooth transition into the contemporary construction empire.

Ayub Khan Zakori remained the Chairman, board member and an active collaborator of the National Incubation Center Peshawar and was introduced to a disruptive medical technology that could possibly capture a significant portion of the international market. The idea, although innovative, repulsed numerous investors because of the lack of a medical manufacturing industry and facilities in the country. Ayub nonetheless took on the challenge and singlehandedly managed to create the sole potential unicorn startup of the country by the name of Aprus Technologies. The startup has been the source of inspiration for the VC domain of the country and has since garnered local and international attention

Apart from the entrepreneurial successes across multiple industries, the most outstanding achievement of the President and the Zakori Group came at a time when businesses were laying off employees and recording significant losses to their operations. Ayub  Khan Zakori not only managed to retain the entire employee base but also moved forward with further solidifying the financial and social position of the group despite facing a plethora of challenges and difficulties amid corona.

The Covid epidemic proved to be an invaluable time for the group not only to evaluate and restructure its business operations but to pursue further expansion of its establishments. Two further milestones are planned to be completed which will solidify the group as an expert in the Food and Beverages industry. A third franchise of Mr. Cod will be opening in Peshawar in the GulBahar area amid increasing demand and Ranchers Café will expand to Lahore after unmatched success in Islamabad.
